Save time, skip writer’s block, and start blogging with confidence (even if you’re an introverted overthinker like myself)!
Blogging is one of the most introvert-friendly ways to market your small business. It allows you to dive deep into your niche, demonstrate your expertise, and share your unique perspective. All this, without needing to show up on social media every day.
However, writing blog posts can feel time-consuming and overwhelming, especially when you’re staring at a blank page and the dreaded flashing cursor of doom. For many small business owners, this leads to procrastination, with blog drafts left abandoned in Google Drive instead of helping your business attract visitors and conversions.
Fortunately, this need not be the case, because artificial intelligence (AI) is here to help. When used intentionally, AI can be a game-changer. It can help you write better blog posts, faster than ever before, and without the stress or overwhelm of not knowing what to write. With the right AI blog writing prompts, you can craft SEO-friendly, Pinterest-worthy blog posts that drive organic visibility, traffic, and conversions for your business. It’s all about blogging smarter, not harder.
In this post, I’ll share five of my favourite AI prompts to blog faster, write with more ease, and amplify the impact of your voice, your perspective, and your content. These are the exact prompts I use to write my own blog posts (including this one)!
Below are five of my top AI prompts for introverted small business owners who want to skip the blank page, and write effective blog posts with ease. In the meantime, you can jump straight in and download my free AI Prompt Kit. It gives you everything you need to draft, refine, and repurpose your blog posts with the free version of Chat GPT.
My Top 5 AI Prompts for Writing Blog Posts:
Why Use AI to Help You Write Your Blog Posts?
AI tools (I use Chat GPT, but there are so many others out there) are really helpful when used for specific purposes, alongside human input. When you discover how to prompt correctly, you will find it so much easier to create standout blog posts that are still yours. There’s no need to settle for generic, bland content that sounds like it was generated by a robot, because AI is there to help you capture, refine and amplify your voice.
In my experience, AI has helped me achieve the following:
More of my blog posts actually get written and published: They do not linger inside my head, or languish in an abandoned Google Doc. Before I started using AI, I would write about one blog post a month. Now, it's closer to one a week.
I produce better blog posts: Because I use AI to help me with structure, phrasing, language, and ideas, my blog posts are of a higher quality.
My blog posts work harder: AI allows me to get maximum mileage out of each blog post, as it offers inspiration for how I can repurpose and expand on my posts.
The most important thing you need to know is this: AI does not write your blog posts for you. It simply helps you overcome some of the obstacles that can stop your ideas from making it onto the page.
You still need to know your stuff when it comes to your niche, and you also need a unique perspective or POV (point of view) to bring to the table. You still need to understand your target audience, and their wants, needs, values, and challenges. If you don’t, then you won’t be able to prompt effectively, and you won’t get the desired output from the AI tool.
The 5 AI Prompts That Help me Write Better Blog Posts, Faster
Prompt 1: The Blog Post Outline
This is a great AI prompt to start with. Provided you know what you want to blog about (although AI can help with this too), you can banish the blank page in just a few seconds. Use this prompt to get a blog post outline that you can build on:
“I am a [insert your profession / job title / POV / tone of voice here]. I want to write a blog post about [insert topic or a draft title if you have one], to go on my website. I want this blog post to [outline main role of the post - drive traffic from Google / generate email subscribers / subtly promote an offer / educate a target audience / etc]. The target audience for this blog post is [insert key demographics / psychographics / values / challenges / needs of the target audience]. I want to cover [insert main points you want to cover]. The finished post should be around [number] words. Can you provide a blog post outline, in bullet points, for this blog post?”
See how much depth you can go into with this prompt? It’s so much more than “write me a blog post about [topic]". Knowing your niche and your audience inside out is key to writing a super specific AI prompt, which will generate a high-quality response. Plus, asking for a blog post outline, rather than a full draft, gives you more flexibility to edit and adapt the output to your requirements.
Prompt 2: Adding Your SEO Keywords to Content
If you want to drive traffic from search engines to your blog post, you will need to ensure your blog post is search engine optimised. I’ve written several blog posts about SEO, so do check those out if you want to learn the basics.
A big part of SEO is ensuring your target keywords feature prominently but naturally in your blog posts. However, this can sometimes be tricky in practice. Luckily, AI can help you do just that. Try this prompt:
“Here is a [paragraph / section / introduction / heading / etc] I have written. I want to target the keyword [insert keyword] for SEO purposes with this content. Please can you add the keyword into the text at least [number of times], ensuring it reads naturally.”
You can also ask the AI to add your chosen keyword(s) into a draft it has written for you. Always check and tweak the response if necessary. Make sure it makes sense, and watch out for Americanisms (i.e. using z instead of s) if you’re writing for a UK audience.
Prompt 3: Drafting Individual Sections
Even if you have your blog post outline, it can be tricky to write that first sentence, introduction, or opening paragraph. Again, AI is here to help. You can ask it to draft these elements for you, so that you can refine and build on them. Try this prompt:
“Based on the blog post outline you provided earlier, please can you draft the introduction. I’d like it to be no longer than [number] words.”
By this time, the AI tool will already know the context of the prompt, provided you gave it a really specific initial prompt (see prompt 1). Of course, you will still need to tweak and refine the draft, but it gives you a bit more to work with if you are still struggling to find the right words.
Even when I do use AI to help me draft specific sections of my blog post, the final product will often look very different because I have brought in more of my own ideas, insights and POV.
This prompt can also be used to draft subheadings, SEO titles, SEO descriptions, conclusions, CTAs and so much more. The point is, the AI tool already has the context it needs to offer a good quality response that you can further develop.
Prompt 4: Content Repurposing (My Favourite)
Even with the help of AI, writing a blog post that captivates, connects with and converts your target audience requires time and effort. So, why not get maximum mileage from your long-form content? If you’ve read my guide to creating an introvert-friendly content marketing strategy, you’ll know that I use my blog posts to inspire the rest of my content. One blog post can feed my content marketing strategy for an entire month! Try this prompt:
“I want to repurpose this blog post for my other marketing channels. Based on this blog post, please provide me with 10 Instagram Reel prompts, 5 LinkedIn post prompts, a podcast episode outline, and 5 Pinterest captions.”
Of course, you can tweak the numbers and content types to suit your needs. Again, this prompt is based on the tool already knowing the blog post you are referring to, because you’ve used it to help you draft and refine the content. If you already have a blog post that you did not create with the help of AI, you can either copy and paste it into the tool, or provide the title and a summary of the post.
To make this prompt work even better, use separate prompts for each different content type you want to create, and specify any key takeaways, CTAs, or the goal of that content. For example, the purpose of my Pinterest content is to drive traffic to my blog posts, and specifying this will help the AI provide suggestions aligned to that goal.
Prompt 5: Refining, Rewording & Polishing
Not only can AI help you with initial outlines and drafts, it can also help you at the other end of the blog writing process. Once you have written your post, AI can help you rephrase sentences, find better words, and make your content more interesting. Using AI to make really specific tweaks can really help polish and lift your blog post. Try this prompt:
"Here is a sentence / paragraph I have written. Can you swap the word [insert word, and specify where it is if required] for something that sounds [e.g. more professional, less vague, more aligned with the tone of voice I have specified, etc]?"
This works brilliantly when you have used a lot of human input to write your blog post, and you just need some help to polish and refine it. In fact, I highly recommend that you “sandwich” or “stack” human and AI input, so that you get the efficiency and support of artificial intelligence, with the emotional intelligence, unique POV, and contextual understanding of you as a human.
Slow Marketing Just Got a Little Faster With AI
Now you have five helpful AI prompts that will help you write better blog posts, faster, you can start (and finish) writing effective, engaging blog posts that still sound like you. Say goodbye to the blank page with its flashing cursor of doom, and say hello to content marketing that feels aligned, productive and authentic.
As introverted business owners, we aren’t usually ones for jumping onto a live or putting out a spur of the moment Instagram post. We perform at our best when we are able to focus on creating deep, quietly impactful content that our dream clients and customers are actively searching for. Whilst it does take time to produce this content, AI can help us speed up the process and create even better content, which is a win-win in my opinion.
So, go ahead and play with these AI prompts. See what works best for you, and don’t be afraid to tweak them.
